The world’s most wanted drug lord, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, is thought to be in Mexico after reports emerged that he had been taken to a hospital in the southern state of Tabasco after a car accident.Local media outlet Tabasco Hoy reports that leader of the Sinaloa drug cartel was in a car that was in an accident involving an SUV. The accident occurred at 3 p.m. on an interstate freeway in the town of Macuspana.Witnesses saw a man resembling Guzman at the site of the accident, according to local news outlet Tabasco Hoy. He was injured and was taken to the Hospital Regional de Macuspana. Paramedics who thought the injured man looked like Guzman reportedly called the police. But, shortly he arrived there, the man informed hospital staff that he was leaving. Moments later, soldiers and federal police arrived at the hospital, but staff told them the man had left moments earlier. The hospital’s director denied that Guzman had ever been there, but the town of Macuspana has been on high alert since Wednesday at the possibility that Guzman might be in the area. Guzman was previously believed to have been in Costa Rica, after his son tweeted an image of himself and a man who looked like his father at a restaurant with the location tag marked “Costa Rica.” However, a former U.S. DEA official told NBC News it was unlikely Guzman would leave Mexico, as he could be arrested and extradited to the United States.The U.S. government is offering a million dollar reward for information leading to Guzman’s capture.
